Sadly, I have to use a Mac for two years so far because my school is giving mac books to all students and so far it has been a nightmare. Every time I go on Youtube the fan will go all the sudden when I only have the Finder and Safari on. The internet is horrible wherever I go with it. I'm considering getting a PC. I always get into arguments with my science teacher on which computer is better. He says that his Macbook Pro is "the best" laptop ever. then I will ask him why then he says because they just work. In the back of my head, im thinking for simple minded people like you they work fine. Also, macs do get viruses, it's just that since there so few of mac users that hackers will only like to hack a large amount of people (pc) instead of getting a small amount of people to hack (mac). :)

Reliability. I have been building PC's for the past 16 years. To date there is still not a reliable version of windows. Win 7 is only about on par with Leopard, and not even comparable to Snow Leopard. It is simple, get a windows machine if games are your highest priority. If you play no games (although there are some) get a mac. I use my mac and win machine daily, as far as reliability Snow Leopard does beat windows.

The Mac OS is the most poorly designed OS that I’ve ever seen From the single menu bar, to the Finder to the Dock. It’s like they designed this thing in a bubble.

1) Having a single menu bar for every application is disgustingly bad. Why? Because what if all the windows for my program are on my secondary screen? Then the menu bar is on one screen and the program is on another.

2) The Dock (I call it “The Crock” as in crock-of-shit) is another UI element that makes me want to puke all over my keyboard. It fails miserably at it’s mission. See that row of icons down there? Some of them are running programs and some are shortcuts. There’s not clearly defined separation of these to. Also, it has a space to show you minimized windows, but that’s it…you can’t see the non-minimized windows without using Expose, which is another craptastic program for the Mac. Arg.

3) The Finder. I don’t have to say much about this other than FTFF. That’s right, there is a saying in the Mac community that goes back a long time and it’s called “Fix The Fucking Finder”. There are many reasons why even the Mac faithful say this. Hey Apple, how about a context menu to create a new file right inside the folder I’m looking in?

4) Keyboard shortcuts / Text editing keys / etc. Every.other.operating.system does it practically the same way. But no, not Apple. They think they know better than you.

5) SO many more things I could list here. All I have to do is use the thing for 5 minutes. I should make a website out of this.

Now a days macs and pc's are being put together with the same components. I was recently in the market for a new computer. I did research on all in ones and found an HP all in one with the same processor, ram, graphics card, ect as the current 24 inch i-mac. The mac cost $200 more. Knowing this I went to my local apple store and managed to get them to give me 1 year of apple care for FREE and a free 8 gig ipod touch (after rebate) to make up the difference, plus a 10% educational discount. The only motivation I have for using a mac is because I use custom data analysis software. I use both macs and pcs and I don't really find one is better than the other. Both operating systems have their advantages and disadvantages. Both systems have vulnerabilities and back doors. I'd have to agree that when you go to a mac store the sales reps try and treat you like you don't know anything. Basically the sales pitch is similar to that of people buying Farraris - they look hot - they will get you laid. If you know computers use your knowledge to leverage the sales staff to give you free stuff with your mac purchase - or just buy a pc without the hassle.

Methinks people put too much stock in marketing and toss out "Macs suck" comments without ever actually trying one. On the flip side, playing devil's advocate, there are also some douchebag Mac users who do the same with regards to PCs.

Here's some advice- use what you want, turn off your damn TV, and BOTH of you shut up and quit worrying about what the other is using.

Wow, Charlie Brooker took the thoughts directly out of my head and presented them beautifully.

Every single self-proclaimed "Mac-Addict" I've ever known can be described as fake.

The worst case I've seen is my department head at work. Shes a fraud. We work at a company that does web development on large sites and she portrays to the higher ups that she is heavily involved in design/development but that couldn't be farther from the truth. She barely knows a few HTML tags (HTML is the equivalent of preschool for web development). The is even worse considering we don't make 'cute' three static page websites.. She doesn't know what a database is! She throws around words like "platform" and "API" just for the hell of it when talking to clients.

The whole time she proclaims that PC's suck and Macs just work. Being completely ignorant that all of the work coming out of our department is coming of a PC... She sits and stares at Dreamweaver and blurts out stupid questions to me:"How do you make italic text in HTML?" She is the only person in the entire building that has a Mac.

Sorry for the rant.. ^_^

Grow up all of you and get Linux. Oh I forgot, to use Linux you must actually have to have an IQ above 50 (the average mac and pc user's). If you had brains in your heads you would buy a really cheap pc get Ubuntu and pocket some serious coin from free software that works better and is easier to use. Let's not forget that with Linux you also get changeable windows managers so you're not stuck with Crapintosh or Window 2000,xp,vista ad naueium.

Finally, as Ubuntu has new releases you can upgrade your OS for free without starting from scratch, reformatting, reloading software etc.

Oh, and btw if your afraid of having to load software on your linux box or install drivers, you should know that it's easier to do both of these tasks now than either on a mac or on a pc.

A very interesting post. Most of the Muslims that I know are very moderate and very willing to live and let live, without attempting to proselytize or condemn if what you do doesn't go with their beliefs. It is entirely possible to discuss a subject without denigrating or insulting it, but people's (hyper)sensitivities- especially when it comes to religion and especially in these times- tend to provoke a kneejerk emotional reaction rather than rational debate. I don't agree that human rights abuses should be allowed to continue under the name of religion but unless there's an absolute sea-change, it will continue.
