After two days of ‘intense’ negotiations, the world championship reunification match is back on, and each player gets their bathroom back, and game 5 stands as a forfeit. Also the Appeals Committee had to resign. It’s patently unfair to Kramnik since it turns out that the protest shouldn’t have been filed in the first place (beyond the deadline) and therefore game 5 was played in different conditions from what Kramnik had agreed to. (Game 6, btw, was a draw). Kramnik still leads by one game.
Interestingly Kramnik has the support of many top grandmasters, including a coterie of GMs with Magnus Carlsen among them (yay) who sent him a letter of support. It remains to be seen if the match continues through the end, however, and things will get even more interesting if Topalov ends up winning by one.
